LBE System Architecture

Architecture Overview

STANDARD MODE

Integration Example Using HTC VIVE Focus 3

Standard Mode accommodates two deployment methods: running a game directly on the HMD or using a “Backpack” PC that the user carries and runs the game.

In the first method, the Mavrik blaster connects directly to the HMD via BLE 5.0+, and the StrikerLink Background Service forwards data to the game.

In the second method, the HMD is plugged directly into the Backpack PC, and the Mavrik is connected via the Backpack PC’s BLE 5.0+ connection. The Mavrik blaster then connects directly to the StrikerLink application, and its data is forwarded to the game running on the Backpack PC.

*Note: a Laptop or Desktop PC will also work in this configuration.

STREAMING MODE

Integration Example Using HTC VIVE Focus 3

Streaming Mode accommodates the newest integration method for LBE, where a PC is used to stream the video data to the HMD over a WiFi 6 connection. In this mode, StrikerLink runs on the HMD, and the Mavrik blaster is connected directly to the HMD via BLE 5.0+. Then the StrikerLink instance on the HMD, when in Bridge mode, passes button and sensor data to the PC over the HMD’s WiFi 6 connection. Then in the reverse order haptic and LED data is passed back to the Mavrik Pro.

ALT MODE

Alternative (ALT) Mode accommodates other non-specific use cases where the deployment of the Mavrik blaster(s) can be in a non-VR attraction, particularly when aiming is accomplished with lasers at screens and/or laser TAG vests. Maintaining blasters using the BLE 5.0+ connection (< 50 feet) or the Zigbee (802.15.4) (>50 feet) -coming soon- connection is accomplished with a “central server” and targeting can be accomplished with an alternative tracking cover that incorporates the correct laser. These tracking covers can be custom-built according to the specific needs of the LBE provider. Please contact StrikerVR for more information if you are interested in this integration mode.

LEGACY MODE

(Coming Soon) Integration example using Optitrack

Legacy Mode accommodates facilities where BLE is not an ideal choice for use due to longer free-roam distances to the central computer running the game and/or the need to assign blasters to particular HMDs using proximity detection implemented by the LBE provider. For instance, in scenarios where the user begins the game without the Mavrik blaster and comes to the blaster at a later point in the game which then must be assigned to the appropriate HMD and user.

In this mode, a “central server” runs the StrikerLink application, and this central server connects to the Mavrik blaster(s) via Zigbee (802.15.4). The central server forwards input from the Mavrik blaster(s) to the appropriate “Backpack” PCs over WiFi 6 to the game running on the Backpack PC.

EMBEDDED MODE

(Coming Soon)

Embedded Mode accommodates use cases where instead of using the StrikerLink Background Service, the StrikerLink runtime is incorporated directly into the game build. This removes the need for the background service to be installed on the HMD. The Mavrik, as in Streaming Mode, connects directly to the HMD via BLE 5.0+, and initial navigation before the game is launched can be accomplished with the Mavrik used as a Bluetooth HID device.
